The basics

What is dermal filler?

Dermal filler is a smooth gel that’s injected under the skin to add volume, lift and definition. Our filler of choice is Revanesse Versa, an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar your body makes naturally, and it holds water to keep skin plump and hydrated.

Where Botox and Dysport relax lines caused by movement, filler replaces volume that fades with age. That makes it ideal for thin lips, flattened cheeks and hollows under the eyes. Many clients combine the two.

HA filler is temporary, and if you ever want a change, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

Consultation

Jamie talks through your goals, looks at your features and recommends where to place filler and how much to use.

Treatment

Most fillers contain a numbing medicine, and topical numbing can be used for extra comfort. Injections are done with a fine needle or cannula.

Results

You see results right away. Swelling settles over 1 to 2 weeks, and that’s when your final result shows.

Maintenance

Lip filler usually lasts 6 to 12 months, and cheek and under-eye filler often longer. Touch-ups keep things fresh.

After your treatment

Avoid straws, and don’t press, tug or massage your lips right after treatment.
Use a cold compress to ease swelling.
Don’t sleep face down, and skip strenuous workouts for the first day or two.
Limit alcohol for 2 days before and after treatment.

Your safety

We use FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers only.
Serious complications are rare. The most important is filler entering a blood vessel, which is why a licensed, experienced injector matters.
Tell us if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have a bleeding disorder, take a blood thinner or get cold sores. Don’t stop a prescribed medicine without talking to your doctor.
Never use needle-free filler pens or fillers sold online.

Filler FAQs

How long does lip filler last?

Usually 6 to 12 months. It depends on the product, how much is used, where it’s placed and your metabolism. Cheek and under-eye filler often lasts longer.

How long does swelling last?

You’ll see results right away, but expect some swelling that settles over 1 to 2 weeks, especially in the lips. Bruising, redness and tenderness can also happen and usually clear within a few days.

Will it look natural?

That’s the goal. Jamie works to enhance your features, not change them, and you can always start subtle and add more at a later visit.

Can filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an injectable enzyme called hyaluronidase if you’re unhappy with the result or a complication occurs.

Filler or Botox: which do I need?

Botox and Dysport relax lines caused by movement. Filler adds volume where it’s been lost or where you’d like more. Many people benefit from both, and Jamie will recommend what fits your goals. Learn about Botox.
